How it works
Business for GoldMine consist of two main modules; the administrator module and the report manager.
The Administrator is used to connect to the database. It is also used to create integration containers (logical subsets of data).
In the Report Manager a user adds a report by first selecting an integration container. A query is added and the required fields are selected from the container.
The data is then dumped into Excel. The report writer will then format the report using Excel powerful functionality.
The last step is to ‘save and link’. In essence, the report query and Excel layout are coupled, the result being a fully automated Excel report.

Template Solution for GoldMine
The product ships with prepackaged standard GoldMine reports which act as a ‘base’ for fast track development of custom reports.
A user is thus able to generate their custom layouts with only Excel skills, as a prerequisite.
The output from ongoing report development is housed on the Internet and available to the BI4CRM community.

So where does Crystal fit in?
The ideal scenario is to have report deployment options based on each reporting need, and therefore a co-existence between of the two solutions.
If the final output fits better in Excel then the report developer should favor BI4CRM.
Crystal reporting requires the availability of IT skills. Conversely, Excel skills are pervasive creating a self empowered path for managers and end users.

Report Manager Module
The report manager module is used to manage, run, modify and create new Goldmine reports.
When creating new reports the developer does not necessarily need database skills. ‘Integration containers’, developed specifically for GoldMine, prepare the Goldmine data specifically for report creation in Excel.
